Does anybody remember Tipper Gore? And those unintentionally hilarious hearings into rock music lyrics?

It turns out that the record industry was playing 11-dimensional chess as the Real Pearl-Clutching Housewives of Georgetown were busy performatively, stumbling to the fainting couch.

They quietly, and then quite publicly, floated the idea of placing a "parental guidance – explicit lyrics" sticker on LPs that contained lyrics that might offend the sensibilities of these uptight mommas – knowing full well that:

1) parents practically never go shopping for records with their children; and

2) the sticker was actually sending a message of "dirty words – buy me now!" to savvy consumers of music.

Carr's idiot idea is history repeating.
