The settlement, which Purdue says could take effect as soon as Friday, calls for members of the Sackler family who own the company to contribute up to $7 billion over 15 years. Most of the money is to go to government entities to use to fight the opioid crisis.

They are worth 11 billion. Will this hurt them? Who knows? They probably saw this coming. And I'm pretty sure 15 years allows them to structure their wealth. I have no idea because I'm not worth much! So, it appears they get to keep less than half, but since it's spread out over 15 years, who knows?

Nasty drug....Should have never been marketed for anything less than terminal cancer or other almost terminal type pain syndromes.

Never should be prescribed for most types of chronic pain, (common muscular-skeletal pain) because most chronic muscular-skeletal pain is cylical, even if severe. It was even prescribed for acute type pains too.
