10. I have wondered. The current chart shows more of the designated lanes closer to Oman

The northern lane is inbound; I reckon that's closer to Oman than Iran in its eastern section, when the ships are going north-west; after they turn west, they're closer to Iran. The outbound lane is always closer to Oman. The purple separation section is, I reckon, mostly closer to Oman all along it.

If they took the half closer to Oman, I reckon they might be able to create two lanes, almost as wide, if the separation zone was narrower. But these are supertankers, so I suppose they have to be careful with turning radii and safety margins.
