In reply to the discussion: Slotkin calls for 'new leadership' in the Democratic Party [View all]QueerDuck
(2,209 posts)It is incredibly frustrating when the national committee backs a candidate whose background doesn't align with the local grassroots, especially a former Republican. That is an incredibly bitter pill to swallow in a primary.
But this situation perfectly illustrates why the DCCC operates strictly on a spreadsheet. And here's the thing: in highly competitive, red-leaning swing districts... it's important to accept the fact that recruiting or supporting a centrist candidate with crossover appeal is often the only viable path to defeating an entrenched Republican incumbent.
The DCCC's intervention isn't an endorsement of that candidate's past ideology... instead, it is a calculated gamble on who can actually win over the independent and moderate swing voters needed to secure the seat.
Ultimately, the power still belonged to the local Democratic voters in your district. The DCCC can provide financial backing, but local voters are the ones who made the final choice at the ballot box. It's an aggravating process, but securing that seat is the only way we get the gavels back.
