1. "Separate their own conscience"

It’s true they’re hypocritical, yet it’s worse than that. Individually they display “moral disengagement”, and as a group they reinforce this lack of conscious connection in each other. This is dangerous because they are freeing themselves from moral thought and action, and freeing themselves to commit immoral behavior. Not every German was a Nazi, but as a citizenry their moral disengagement allowed the ejection if Hitler and set the stage for the Holocaust to occur.
