In case someone needs to hear this... [View all]

"You’ve survived 100% of your bad days, why give up now"?

I used to say this to my mother while she cried from physical pain. I used to hold her hand and try to comfort her with my words. My words, which came from someone who wasn't experiencing what she was. She would tell me she wanted to die. She endured terrible arthritis, and here I was, hoping my little words would help her.

Like my words could take away her pain.

Now that I experience the same pain of growing older, I sometimes think I was too cavalier with my words to her.

But I hope I helped her, if only for a moment. Sometimes words help, sometimes they don't.

Maybe someone needs these words today.

Because you never know if they will make a difference or not.

One can hope.
