(28,037 posts)In 1996, I started with a 6 pediatrician practice as the first NP they ever had. When a parent would call for an appointment, the front desk staff started out by saying, "Would you mind seeing the nurse practitioner?" I asked them to stop phrasing it that way, because it carries the implication that maybe there's a reason someone should mind. I didn't want them setting up that expectation. Just say, "Dr. X has an opening at 10:00. Mrs.Y is available at 9:30."
It was always a puzzle to me that people worried about about whether NPs and PAs are qualified to do what we do. No physician-owned, decently run practice is going to risk its reputation by hiring someone they don't trust and have confidence in.
When people would express a concern along the line of, "Do nurse practitioners and physician assistants know what they don't know?" my answer to that was always that anyone who provides you a service of any kind needs to know what they don't know, be it a lawyer, a plumber, a roofer, a dentist, a mechanic, whatever/whoever.
So glad you are happy with your PA.
