13. Can't think of a good Christmas

We always had good holiday meals. But if we got together with cousins on my Dad's side, we kids fought. If we got together with cousins on my Mom's side, the adults fought. We always got good presents. I think the traditions we had to make Christmas are the base of all the good memories I have of the holiday.

My husband and I made good Christmases for our kids. After the kids moved out, we enjoyed donating gifts to a Secret Santa program, or taking a tag off the gift tree and buying for a child to make their holiday brighter.

I remember one year, I was out shopping with my Mom and my husband. We were at a strip mall and as we got in the car, my Mom said excitedly, "Look what I got! Somebody threw this package in a trash can!" Of course, she had passed a barrel for Toys for Tots, and erred, badly. We gave her the bad news and with a straight face, my husband put the package back. I still laugh.
