5. Well, the west has been shy of much of our winter, so I'm betting we are due for more than six more weeks

Then again, we ALWAYs are, with major snows not coming for weeks now in more years. Regardless, I always try to warn newcomers not to put out bedding plants until after MEMORIAL DAY! YES. Even if Home Depot and elsewhere are showing blooming plants everywhere in late March and April, we often get a freezing spell with a major storm mid May or even later. so... (often they learn the hard way)
