You probably have heard this, but, just in case 
. . . he likely will come home with instructions from the therapists to do certain exercises -- exercise, how many repetitions, how many sets, how many times a day. DO THE EXERCISES. Do the exercises the way the therapist taught him to do them and do the number of reps and sets the therapist directed.
You'd be surprised at the number of folks who come home from rehab and figure, well, that's over, I'll just pile up here in my recliner and not worry about that stuff from the therapist. In six weeks, they are back in the hospital.
I'm a retired EMT -- you would not believe the number of people we had to pick up and take to the ER and on the way they would tell me, "well, I had surgery couple of months ago, went through rehab, etc." I would ask them about their PT routine -- "I didn't bother with that, I felt fine when I came home." And on to the ER they went.
