And, I agree it's a cool part.
Sounds to me like it's doubled synth and electric bass. You can clearly hear the synth during the "do doo doo" parts before the chorus comes back in.
As I recall, the guy played a Chapman Stick which might explain why there are so many high notes on that part.
One of my faves from the 80s. Wanted to cover it, but I think it would have required sequencing to do it justice & the tech to link that with a live drummer wasn't good enough yet. Too bad. Would have been fun to do.
