Court order keeps Avenal City Council recall election on track for April 28 [View all]

AVENAL, Calif. (FOX26) — A recall election targeting four members of the Avenal City Council will move forward as scheduled after a judge denied the city’s request to stop it, clearing the way for voting to continue ahead of Election Day next Tuesday.

The recall effort began in July 2025, when Kings County received a request from recall proponents to initiate a recall against the four council members.

After legal requirements were met, the recall election was officially called. Ballots have been mailed, and voting is currently underway.

The City of Avenal filed a lawsuit against Kings County on March 4th, challenging the validity of the recall election and arguing that the county registrar of voters did not have the authority to administer it.
