Few insurers willing to join crumbling foundation fund [View all]

HARTFORD — As the state attempts to initiate a program that could provide $52 million in aid to homeowners with crumbling concrete foundations, some major insurance companies are saying they have no intention of participating.

Last month representatives from the attorney general’s office said that of the 29 companies that provide homeowners insurance throughout the affected area — generally north and east of Hartford — four have shown interest in the program.

Liberty Mutual spokesman Glenn Greenberg said last week that the company has no intention of joining the four that have shown interest in providing financial relief to victims.

“We have thoughtfully considered the program and have decided not to participate,” he said.
