If we could win back a seat next election it would mean so much...

Michelle Nunn, the Democratic candidate for an open Senate seat in Georgia, raised $1.7 million in her first 10 weeks as a candidate and has $1.4 million cash on hand, a Democratic source told POLITICO. The impressive haul for a first-time candidate comes from 6,700 individual donors.

Nunn, the daughter of former Sen. Sam Nunn, is on leave as the CEO of the Points of Light Foundation, a nonprofit affiliated with former President George H.W. Bush. She gives Democrats perhaps their best opportunity to pick up a seat in a year when the map forces them to largely play defense. The party hopes that a contentious GOP primary generates an unelectable candidate.

“We have a tough and challenging road ahead, but I know that with the partnership of thousands of friends like you, we can create real change for our state and our nation,” she writes.
