1. We generally keep our AC at about 76 in summer-

we don't do well if we set it above that. We also have ceiling fans in most of the rooms in the house, and they help our ac not run as often, and still stay comfortable.

Edited to add- anyone who grew up during the oil embargo of the 1970's was already doing these things anyway, due to the electric companies using every excuse they could think of to raise rates (as they still do!).
