A Potomac High School student came to school with an unconfirmed case of frostbite Monday after Prince William County Schools remained open on a normal schedule despite wind chills in the single digits.
In an email just after 9 a.m. Monday to Potomac High School staff, Assistant Principal Malcolm Foust announced a student came to the schools clinic with frostbite. ... With the extremely cold weather this morning, we had a student in the clinic with frostbite on his fingers after waiting for the bus without proper winter clothing, Foust wrote.
The school division told InsideNoVa, however, that it does not have confirmation of the diagnosis, as Potomac High School health personnel are not licensed to make a medical diagnosis of frostbite.
Foust encouraged the school staff to keep an eye out for any students who report having symptoms of frostbite, which include severe pain, numbness or discoloration in their fingers or hands.
