Here's the salary it takes to get beyond living 'paycheck to paycheck' in Seattle [View all]

Living in Seattle comes at a cost. Living comfortably is costlier.

An individual in the Emerald City needs to earn $57.40 per hour before taxes to meet their basic needs, wants and other aspirations, according to a new SmartAsset study released March 7.

A two-person working household with two children has to earn a combined annual salary of at least $283,712 to live comfortably in Seattle.

SmartAsset used the latest available cost of living data from MIT for the largest 99 U.S. cities. Then, it defined comfortable living by using the costs to the “50/30/20” rule — a budgeting method that recommends that 50% of one’s salary should cover needs (housing, groceries and transportation), 30% goes toward wants (entertainment and hobbies) and 20% toward paying off debt, saving or investing.
