No Kings III: Hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians marched for democracy today, with nearly 100,000 just in Seattle [View all]

Tens of thousands of Washingtonians flooded Cal Anderson Park and marched to Seattle Center for the third No Kings rally today on a mostly sunny Saturday afternoon in the Pacific Northwest, demonstrating that the movement to defend America from authoritarianism remains committed to the cause of keeping the Republic.

Seattle Indivisible and its coalition partners estimated the crowd at 90,000 to 100,000, making it the largest of many No Kings gatherings all over the state (in Olympia, Bellingham, Spokane, Everett, Tacoma, Kirkland, and other cities), despite a number of other events taking place across the Seattle metro, such as the Crosslake Connection grand opening, a UFC event and a Mariners game against the Cleveland Guardians.

The rally, organized under the the motif of “Neighbors Fighting Fascism: ICE Out,” brought together more than thirty-five organizations, including the Northwest Progressive Institute, to take a stand for the republican principles espoused in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.

The program opened with a land acknowledgment from Ken Workman, an elder of the Duwamish Tribe, followed by music from Seattle alt-rock band King Youngblood. Washington Attorney General Nick Brown set the tone for the speaking program, framing the moment in historical terms and drawing one of the day’s loudest responses when he asked the crowd whether they feared Donald Trump. “Hell no!” they answered.
