Barnes & Noble sets new date for downtown Seattle opening [View all]

Barnes & Noble’s return to downtown Seattle will be official May 6.

Barnes & Noble posted on social media that its original planned opening date of April 29 has been delayed by construction setbacks. Plans for the new store at 520 Pike St. were first announced in November 2025.

The nation’s largest bookstore chain, based in New York, closed its last downtown Seattle store in January 2020. The store, located at Pacific Place shopping center, had been open for 22 years.

Numerous national retailers left downtown Seattle around the same time, around the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. The North Face, which was the previous tenant at the Pike Street location, left in 2024.
