Any annexation of Canada as the 51st state would require an illegal invasion and occupation of the country, and that would result in the deaths of thousands of American soldiers (as well as Canadians), and the killing would not stop until the last American soldier left Canadian soil.

All talk of Canada becoming the 51st state, whether trolling or not, encompasses that reality.

The question is unavoidable and must be asked. Asking it publicly isn’t going to “plant an idea” in Trump’s head and lead to war, it merely adds a layer of context and consequence to all the clickbait talk about annexation.

Canada does not need the alliance weakened in any way.
The United States of America does not need the alliance weakened.
NATO does not need the alliance weakened.
The world does not need the alliance destabilized

Weakened? The alliance, with Canada and Europe, has been nearly obliterated. If Trump can abandon Ukraine (which the US promised to protect in exchange for Ukraine relinquishing their nukes), he can abandon Canada (he’s already in the process of sending the Canadian economy into deep recession). Most Canadians don’t blame Americans for that reality, but we don’t deny that it is the current reality.

After the Canadian election on Monday, I expect Carney to move decisively to create new and stronger trade and defence agreements with Europe, Asia, and other nations. The era of Canada being completely dependent on America is coming to an end.
