Click on the Windows start button in the bottom left hand corner. Find the Search bar & type in "file type." It should bring up a window labeled something like

Apps --> Default apps --> Choose defaults by file types


Below, will be a very long list of file extensions. Scroll down to .PDF & select what app you want to use for that file type.

I just updated Windows & my settings for PDF files changed, so maybe that's what happened to you, too.
