I'm a pissed off Democrat [View all]
The very last really important thing I want to do before my surgery is to attend the protest in my state capitol on the 17th.
Now for the frustration:
I spent more than an hour trying to find anything about the No Kings on Presidents Day protest.
I contacted the last county party chairman and he knew nothing. He gave me the number to the current chairman and he also knew nothing.
They gave me the number to the executive director of the Illinois county chairs association and he doesn't even identify himself as such on his voicemail.
We have to take back our party. We need people who are idealistic, motivated and most importantly, that are willing to sacrifice to meet this moment.
I spoke to the last chairman of the Fayette County Democratic Party and as I would have guessed, there's been no support of this counties party since JB Pritzker ran for Governor the first time.
Nobody fucking eats if minnows don't eat. We need to create a structure that runs from the ground up, not from the top down. The other guys figured this out a long long long time ago and it is the only reason they have any power whatsoever.
Republicans are invested in their party, their candidates and their messaging.
We haven't had much of that for a very long time.
To think, in 1976, Jimmy Carter won ALL the southern states, lost all the western states.
We can come up with a hundred reasons as to why our back are up against a wall. I'm looking for the hundred ways we can get these voters back.
Please don't tell me they're gone for good, as most of these voters were card carrying Dems for generations until they bought a message that sounded better than ours.
Are we really going to say that they can't be reached anymore? The answer will be a resounding yes if we can't come up with a salient message.
Just some thoughts as I contemplate what to put on my sign.
Just some thoughts as I get excited for freezing my ass off Monday lol.
