If someone is trying to kill you it's not enough that you can defend yourself. You want them to stop trying to kill you. It's not rocket science. Give them a state of their own and they will use it to attack Israel or prepare to attack Israel. What they have been promised is irrelevant. If they have the intent (and they do), then they will find a way to obtain weapons. Israel isn't required to to just give away strategic territory and hope for the best. Granted, the Palestinians could simply violate any peace agreement, but at least they would have to deal with that.
