"Palestinian teenager who died in Israeli prison showed signs of starvation" [View all]

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Lithos (a host of the Israel/Palestine group).

This is the headline from a story from the Lebanese news site "Naharnet" dated 04/07/25. The autopsy for this young man was witnessed by an Israeli surgeon and he describes extreme condition of this boy. According to witnesses it appears he was so weakened from starvation that he collapsed and hit his head. Held 6 months time without charge.

It should be noted the Israeli prison administration released a statement saying they run the prisons according to the law. Apparently the law allows extreme starvation and medical neglect if we take them at their word.

His "horrible crime" for which he was treated this way was throwing some stones. It is sadly just one more instance of abuse of prisoners in Israeli custody down through the many years and for which nothing will ever really be done. Funny how the media determines it's words to use for people being held by people with power and guns. In one instance they say you are a "prisoner" or a "detainee" even though you aren't ever charged with anything. "Indefinite detention" it's called using the weasel words of government to make it sound OK. But as the article points out "Israel often holds on to bodies of dead Palestinians, citing security grounds or for political leverage." The prison where the teen was held was a maximum security facility known for problems. Does this sound like a facility to hold a boy who threw stones? Maximum security? Certainly not for his security by any stretch.

Over on the "other" side Hamas commits their atrocities with people they hold as well.

But if you are being held without charge in abusive conditions by people with power and guns, regardless of side, and your release may depend on some "political bargaining" perhaps the media would be more accurate in calling you a hostage. But no that would be too much like telling the truth and as the saying goes it was the first casualty in a war from long ago that rages on with various battles. The current battle in Gaza is not a separate war and it demeans the truth to say it is.

But in an area of the world where people with guns kill people at music festivals and grab others to take prisoner while some others with guns kill villagers and refugees and grab people to take prisoner life and truth has been so debased by everyone that it doesn't matter anymore what you call it. It will not matter how anybody tries to clean up Hell. It will not matter how shiny the buildings or distant the memories. It will always be stained from end to end with the evil done and the ones from each side who committed the evil pointing at the other in a pathetic attempt to justify what has been done, how and by who.
