The other aspect to consider, is not just whether the particular procedure is covered or not, but the cost of the procedure. At least for some policies, the cost of the procedure, if not covered, is the cost negotiated with the dental insurance company, not the full retail cost. So, even if you need to pay all or part, the cost can be less because you have insurance, depending on the policy.
