I got it from a pair of second-hand winter boots. I tried the OTC remedies but all they did was make it spread. You'll need a Rx for it, turbinafin(e?) that you have to take, once a day, for close to a year depending on how bad it is.

You will also need to throw out all the shoes you've worn while afflicted with this thing. Also, cleaning the shower floor more often helps but you can't keep wearing the same old shoes/boots that carry the fungus, can't get it out and you don't want to keep reinfecting yourself once you start treatment.

It cost me over $400 to replace all my shoes and good winter boots but it was worth it.

You also have to keep watch for relapses. I use a medicated powder in my shoes now just to be safe.
