11. Quitting was so hard!

I can relate. Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done, and I'm no stranger to hard things!

I used ALL of it. I used the patch for a long time (too long!).
Five months without a cigarette, and I still felt like my head was going to explode without one.
Instead of smoking, I decided to start vaping. Which isn't the same, but I was able to "get by" with it.
Then I started reducing the amount of nicotine in my vape until eventually I was at zero nicotine.
But I was still sucking on that thing! For longer than I care to admit!

What really helped me isn't available anymore. QuitNet.com used to be a forum setting, like this, and it made all the difference for me, having the support of people who were struggling like me, but some corporation bought it and shut it down. Maybe there's something else out there now like it.

I also joined Nicotine Anonymous meetings (which has a heavy spiritual component that might not appeal to you).

It's a hard addiction to beat! February 3, 2013, was my quit date. I clearly remember the last cigarette I smoked, and I know I'm just one puff away from being a slave to the addiction again.

Good luck! Don't ever stop quitting.
