Especially the bacon. I love it, but avoid it after having a state job testing water quality and seeing what the hog waste lagoons do to water quality. My state of NC is notorious for having open hog waste lagoons in low lying, frequently flooded areas. Its an environmental disaster for the rivers and estuaries. It also hurt seeing how the pigs are treated like commodities rather than smart sentient beings they are.
Before you get mad at me-I don't mean to preach. I really don't, though it sounds like it. That's just my sad story with bacon. I never preached to my ex partners family who ate it with lusty abandon and I won't complain or avoid it if someone else is serving food that contains it. At that point, I figure its already done and skipping the meal won't change a thing. Plus I like to thankfully eat what people serve when I'm a guest.
On another note, I found a product called Fakin' Bacon. It's made from tempeh and it's damn good. It's not great if you're expecting a bacon replica , but it is good on its own for a smoky, deep flavor. Good texture too. And it rocks as a TLT sandwich (tempeh, lettuce and tomato). I learned about it when I worked at a restaurant where they served it and people ordered it like crazy.
