For non-meat-eaters, it substitutes for a beefy flavor in gravies and sauces. I eat meat, but even I love the beefy flavor of it. I can't afford to eat roast beef all that often, but marmite satisfies that craving for beefy gravy. I even make a savory oatmeal with it and steel cut oats...tastes like rice and rich, beefy gravy. Yummy stuff.
