??Volunteers, can't be, what to call 'em... [View all]

My knees and back demanded, vehemently that we not get down on hands and knees to harvest potatoes this year. So we went with grow bags, three sizes…20 gal…10 gal…5 gal. The 5 gallon was all the left over reds that didn’t fit the Red potato bag. Plus, we can see how a bag that size produces.

BUT
Some of last year’s crop started poking their stubborn heads out of the ground. Really can’t call them volunteers they got left behind…but that doesn’t sound right…’ground potatoes’? Pomme de terre with more terre?

Potato patch…

Better view….

Volunteer?

Yes, your eyes don’t deceive you that’s zucchini growing in the patch. The placement of the bags gives us some room to try to ‘snake’ the zucchini between the openings. Some may not produce very well but these are extra plants. Zucchini is a tough plant. We’ll see.
