7. Responsible breeding has its place.

There is nothing wrong with wanting a specific breed from a good breeder. We had a Golden Retriever and it's easy for me to see the appeal. They are wonderful dogs. (The joke was that he has papers, but refuses to use them.) Yes, shelter dogs are wonderful too. We have rescued several of them, and even more shelter kitties.

The problem is with backyard breeders and people who refuse to neuter their pets. Also, people get tired of their pets and just leave them outside to roam. All 4 of my best friend's dogs came to her that way. The first thing she does after she has looked for their owners is neuter them.

There are actually places in the country that don't have enough dogs because of successful spay/neuter programs. We have too many dogs here. Some of my friends are part of a transportation network that transfers our extras to the places that need them.

Just my $.02 worth. I enjoy reading about the antics of Dunc.
