I'm a little surprised Austin is on that list given their proximity to Dallas

Nearly 30 years ago both the Detroit Vipers and the Hartford Whalers explored becoming NHL teams playing at the Palace in Auburn Hills

Mike Ilitch the owner of the Detroit Red Wings vetoed both

So the owners of the Vipers bought the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Hartford Whalers moved to Raleigh North Carolina

Whatever happened those teams
