In my youth, I was a Tigers fan (hometown team). I became a Cubs fan in 1979 and a diehard fan in 1984. I was in my glory in '84, the Tigers were winning and the Cubs were winning. I worked nights so I got to watch all the Cubs games on WGN. One day, the Cubs had a doubleheader and the Tigers had a doubleheader and I sat there for over 10 hours watching every minute of it! I've been hoping for a Tigers/Cubs World Series for decades!
You were at the Bartman game? Wow. I always thought he got a raw deal. He didn't do anything that any other fan would have done. When the ball comes to the stands, everybody is looking up at it and not on the field. He didn't cause the Cubs to lose; the Cubs caused the Cubs to lose. It was heartbreaking to see how badly they fell apart after that play, but it wasn't Bartman's fault. It was the billy goat's fault! I used to have a picture of Bartman with a billy goat next to him in the stands on my desk at work. And having to be escorted out of the ballpark by security and getting death threats? That was outrageous. Poor guy.
My mother and I went to a game in the first round of the NLCS against the Braves that year, right before the series with the Marlins and the Bartman game. That was in the days of dial-up (!) and I was sitting in the virtual waiting room for hours and all of a sudden, a message popped up that there were two Standing Room Only tickets available for Game 4 and did I want them? Hell yes, I wanted them! The Cubs had won the first two games in Atlanta and were playing the third game at Wrigley while we were driving to Chicago. We listened to it on the radio. If the Cubs had won that game, our tickets would've been useless. But they lost and we were there for game 4, which they also lost. It was exciting though, to be at a play-off game at Wrigley Field.
But isn't this current winning streak great? GO CUBS GO!!!!!
