Contained within mosaic law was the requirement for all males to be circumcised. The far more wealthy Romans and Greeks weren't circumcised and doing so was a pretty risky proposition at the time. In order to bring that money into the church, the obvious solution was to declare the old covenants null and void (which is exactly the opposite of what Jesus preached). The new covenant was simple. Accept Jesus as your god and the gates of heaven are open to you. Voila! Nobody had to get circumcised with the added benefit of requiring blind loyalty to the faith to receive the conveniently unverifiable reward in exchange for your tithing.
