8. Tact is in a gray area

Tact is also modifying one's statements to be less offensive or spare another's feelings. It can do that, and without it, diplomacy would be dead. Which is not to say that excessive tact can't blur or conceal one's true meaning. That may leave you having to check to see if one's meaning has been grasped. Awkward again. It's a gray area, so I try to stay on the lighter gray side of that. Battleship gray is right out.
