large chat room. Moderation would be almost impossible, but could be necessary if someone in chat is drunk or high. People sometimes post stuff that's too personal in chat if only a few friends are there, but others can log in at any time and at least some chat history might be visible to them.

It's really easy to have one-on-one conversations here via mail. Much better. Groups can post easily in a thread on the board.
