1. Hope to see a response from EarlG soon, but as someone who's run forums, I want to point out

that:

1) Making DU private will make it almost disappear from search engines.

2) A private message board is much less likely to attract new members, even if they hear about it somewhere.

3) Ad revenue will go way down.

4) The government will still be aware of everything posted here, unless EarlG could somehow know whether an account is used by someone working for the government.
