4. He just doesn't have that oomph

I think people are craving something different, sort of the unabashed, honest attack dog which kind of explains Bernie and Trumps surge.. Those who don't like that are going with the establishment picks of Clinton or Jeb etc. So O malley is sort of stuck between establishment and outsider meaning he doesn't really have a natural footing or base.

Good candidate on paper, except there doesn't seem to be a path. We seem the same thing with Rubio on the Republican side.
