My bad. Texas has been in repuke control since the 1990s, not 1980's. Ann Richards was the last decent gov of Texas, and her term ended in 1995.
In 30 years it went from being an okay place to live, work, and maybe raise a family, to being a place you go when you don't have anywhere else to go.
