But even if one has the skill and mindfulness to avoid being trained, just acquiring ‘information’ itself does not provide enough of a basis to make good decisions, because information is not, by itself, knowledge or understanding. Knowledge comes from the ability to organize various types of information into broad patterns, and understanding comes from such things as connecting cause and effect in those patterns, drawing analogies, etc. That is still far short of wisdom, but at least it provides a basis for reasoned decisions. Unfortunately, a large fraction of the population of this country is allowing itself to be tained and may never rise above it.
