they have and will continue to bring unwanted attention to the details.
Sure, anything with the Felon's name will get attention but this is a specific allegation which will be scrutinized by the MAGA crowd as well as the general voting public due to it's graphic nature.

This will taint everybody protecting him, just before the elections. They won't be able to distance them selves no matter how hard they try.

The details of the accusations are horrible, to be sure but the exposure will be hard to deny and fix. That goes for the past, present and future. To not deny the accusation and details will be tantamount to a confession.
