Is it coming to this again? I was not around the first time. But having read the quote many times. I fear..... [View all]

......we are about to wait too long, and we all will become the person(s) in the last phrase of the poem.

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

The quote is the famous anti-Nazi poem commonly known as "First they came..." written by Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984), a German Lutheran pastor and theologian.

The quote is inscribed at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
It has become a universal warning about the danger of apathy, silence, and the gradual erosion of freedoms.

When our version of this nightmare is over, we will know that we have truly won because there will be NO buildings left with 47's name on them.
