We camped out in my partially finished basement last year, mostly, but I think I have a mold problem that I'm still dealing with. So, back upstairs to the bedroom with a single portable A/C, supplemented with fans and insulated blackout curtains on the big west-facing window, I can keep her happy. Meanwhile, I venture throughout the rest of the house to get a few things done, but given I refuse to cool with ultra-expensive central air this year, we are coping. Two straight days of 100°F are on the way. Yuck, but I will be working, so only the hot hot hot drives to and from to deal with.
AC of any kind makes me feel lethargic and generally crappy, so this is not a happy time. But the pre-dawn walks are generally fairly cool and keep me sane.
That said, I would be scum not to be thinking of the elderly--especially in high-rise apartments or other settings without air conditioning and the homeless throughout the country, and for me, all the desperate animals poorly cared for. May there be locals who care for them all.
And, the awful wildfires...
