1. Hawaii was hit with a devastating tsunami from a 2004 Chilean quake

So distance doesn't really mean much, it's the wave seiching or as we called it in the bathtub "the slosh factors" and the lay of the land from the direct the wave originated from that determines how bad a tsunami will be.
The wave will be radiating from the Northwest when it hits. The big cities will probably be spared, but from what I remember, there's a lot of poorer rural and indigenous communities on that side of the island chain.
