11. Saw the DEVO documentary last year -- they started at Kent State

and were good friends with two of the women who were shot.

Paraphrasing, their take away was "street protest is over"

Four students were killed by the Guard members, and Casale was a friend of two of them: freshmen Allison Krause and Jeffrey Miller. Casale, who was a senior, had gotten to know them through his campus job as a counselor for incoming students.

I probably believed the whitewashed history of America being the land of the free, with equal rights and opportunity for everyone. That was eroding as I learned more. But May 4 was the dividing line.”

They used stickers for a while and then became the band we all know. But my point here is that, for them, Kent State was the end of campus protest. They moved to more subversive tactics, music and video.
