... so someone racked the slide, ejecting something. If the weapon was fired, it would have been the casing. If the weapon wasn't fired, it would have been a live round. It could have been done after the gun was confiscated, in order to render it safe. In any case, someone knows something, and there must be some hard evidence. A spent casing on the scene or still in the gun would indicate that the shotgun was fired. No casing = no firing.

I'd also like to know what kind of ammunition he was using. A 12-gauge slug can only be stopped by Level 4 body armor, not the Level 3 soft armor that plainclothes Secret Service agents wear under their coats. The agents in the tactical gear probably have Level 4 hard plates. In any case, these are all pertinent questions.
