6. I'm old enough to remember the Bicentennial

Most of us were patriotic. The whole country was red white and blue. Something to celebrate and be proud of after Watergate. Such innocent times.
For me the worst part is I play in a community band and we’re expected to play a lot of patriotic crap this summer. Ugh. One consolation is our director despises trump at least as much as I do and he’s forcing himself to program this garbage because that’s what the audience expects. And I detect a distinct lack of enthusiasm about the “anniversary” around here. Extreme contrast to 1976.
