Majir Nicholas "Nick" Dockery is a highly decorated U.S. Army Special Forces officer and Green Beret. He was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Trump for extraordinary heroism and valor while fighting Taliban forces in Afghanistan's Kapisa Province on October 2, 2012.
Military Career & Combat ActionsThe Action: During a four-hour ambush, then-Second Lieutenant Dockery repeatedly crossed open ground under heavy enemy machine-gun and RPG fire to rally his troops.Life-Saving Bravery: He used his own body to shield a comrade from a grenade blast and fought his way through enemy lines to rescue an unconscious teammate who was being dragged away by Taliban combatants.
Prior Awards: Before the Medal of Honor, Dockery's valor earned him two Silver Stars, three Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, and the prestigious Alexander R. Nininger Award for Valor at Arms.Education & Later Service
Early Years: An Indiana native, he enlisted in the Indiana National Guard in 2004 and graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 2011.
