If you Google something like "How do I tell if a photo is fake", you will get several free online tools to try.
Pretty much all sites "passed" the photo as authentic.
One site that I used rated the photo as having a 45% probability of being AI, citing problems with the software signatures. But that was just on one site out of 4 or 5.
My personal opinion? I have no idea.
The left side of the pillow above his head looks wonky to me.
His fingers on the newspaper look messed up...doctored.
He looks younger than in other recent photos of him.
I think the timing of the release of the photo is suspicious.
But I'm usually wrong about things like this.
If the photo is indeed real, it was obviously staged with a newspaper purposely. I doubt he would be holding onto a sports section nonchalantly while receiving a visit from his wife. "Thanks for coming honey. Let me just grab this sports section here and we'll take a picture that I know a few million people will be looking at with a fine-toothed comb".
As a side note about how I feel about AI...sure, it may be of some use in some applications. However, anything that has any utility at all? Humans will use it for bad acts. They will abuse it, and fuck up everything they can with it. We can't even stop spam phone calls, but we think we can use AI for the common good? C'mon.
And I don't know about you, but I hate living in a world where I have to wonder if something right in front of my face is real or not. We cannot live in a society like that, but we will pursue AI recklessly anyway, and it will probably end us as a "normal" society.
