"...political partisanship..."

Is laughable. Journalism has become a pillar of capitalism. It is a failure at service to the electorate.

It would be nice if journalists were required to study and demonstrate proficient understanding of the dangerous tools of political debate, dis/misinformation and propagandan as prerequisites for initial and continuing employment.

It wouldn't hurt to have them swear an oath to democracy like the Hippocratic oath and the oath of those serving our government and the military.

Required continuing education on deception detection and deception management would also be a good start.

Journalism should be a guardian of the highest possible moral standards for protecting the Republic. Not a mechanism for its dismantling.
